For chatting, we recommend a chatmail relay instead of a classic email provider.
If you run your own mail server, the most reliable way to make it
work with email clients is to publish an
autoconfig file
at
/.well-known/autoconfig/mail/config-v1.1.xml on your domain.
To set up a profile with a third-party classic email provider, you may need the "advanced settings" during profile creation. Please consult your provider for the required server settings.

Does my email provider work with Chatmail?
Beside the recommended usage of chatmail relays, you can use many classic email account in chatmail apps.
Usually, it just works, but for some providers, you need to adjust the settings. In this case, click on “prepare” for details.
Please note that push notifications do not work with classic providers and esp. large classic providers often have sending limits and overzealous spam rejections. This can worsen the chat experience, as messages are delayed or missing messages may even disrupt groups.
