For chatting, we recommend a chatmail relay instead of a classic email provider.
If you run your own mail server, the most reliable way to make it
work with email clients is to publish an
autoconfig file
at
/.well-known/autoconfig/mail/config-v1.1.xml on your domain.
To set up a profile with a third-party classic email provider, you may need the "advanced settings" during profile creation. Please consult your provider for the required server settings.
ProtonMail
It's broken.
Unfortunately, Protonmail doesn’t offer IMAP, so you cannot log in with chatmail to Protonmail.
If you really want to use Protonmail, you can check out their IMAP bridge at https://protonmail.com/bridge/, however, note that the bridge does not work on all operating system and not on all Protonmail accounts.
