For chatting, we recommend a chatmail relay instead of a classic email provider.
If you run your own mail server, the most reliable way to make it
work with email clients is to publish an
autoconfig file
at
/.well-known/autoconfig/mail/config-v1.1.xml on your domain.
To set up a profile with a third-party classic email provider, you may need the "advanced settings" during profile creation. Please consult your provider for the required server settings.
GMX.net
Needs preparation.
To use your GMX email address you have to enable access for 3rd party applications through IMAP. Please see GMX’s own article on how to do that. (Note: in the GMX settings, if the checkbox isn’t visible in your mobile browser, try “Show website as desktop version”.)
Afterwards you can use your GMX email address and the newly created password.
One more tip: In case you find that messages are not moved into the designated “DeltaChat”-folder of your email account, please make sure that you have less than 20 folders altogether. Apparently GMX Freemail allows only for 20 folders. Note that also folders in the trash do count.
Unlock your GMX account
Some people have reported that their accounts were locked by GMX after heavy chatting.
If Delta Chat stops working with your GMX account, you can usually resolve that by logging into the web interface and reset your password to be long & secure.
If you chat a lot, consider adding a separate profile for that on a Chatmail Relay.
